Steinberg Hart is excited to announce the opening of the newly renovated and expanded Theatre & Dance Complex, part of the J.T. Margaret Talkington College Maedgen Theatre at Texas Tech University. The Grand Opening of Phase II of this project featured a 200 person reception, attended by Steinberg Hart Partner and Texas Tech alum Douglas Moss and Principal Evan Delli Paoli, and a performance of Sweet Charity by the School of Theatre & Dance.
Originally constructed in 1964, the Charles E. Maedgen Jr. Theatre is home to the School of Theatre and Dance within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts at Texas Tech University.
The 36,000 SF renovation and expansion project, completed in collaboration with Parkhill, will allow the Dance and Theatre departments to share the resources of the new facility under one roof. Shop areas for scenery, stage props, costumes, painting, and metal work to further support these academic departments and their stage productions.
A new second floor addition consists of administrator and faculty offices as well as graduate student collaboration areas. Envisioned as a 21st Century theatre facility for the future and beyond, the renovated Maedgen Theatre celebrates digital technology with its ribbon wall enclosures. Not only is traditional physical scenery accommodated – but also immersive, projection scenery that has the potential to envelop the audience chamber and offers to students a new horizon of possibilities.
Steinberg Hart is proud to have designed a collaborative space for students to create, learn, and perform.
