ProjectsState Center Community College District Breaks Ground on Long-Awaited New Oakhurst Campus
We’re excited to announce the groundbreaking of the long-awaited Oakhurst Campus, a transformative project in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, this new campus will provide critical access to higher education for the surrounding communities.
Located over 45 miles from the nearest college, this campus will serve students from Oakhurst, Yosemite Valley, and surrounding areas. With a focus on natural sciences, arts, engineering, business, and childcare, the campus also offers flexible spaces for community gatherings, fostering academic and social engagement.
Our team worked closely with college leadership, faculty, staff, students, and the Oakhurst community to develop the 31,000 SF campus facility. The result of this deep collaboration was a singular facility serving 300 students, faculty, and staff with the ability to support additional community functions and activities.
Our design maximizes the connection to nature, blending indoor and outdoor spaces through covered communal areas, a courtyard, and a multipurpose patio off the Library/Community Room with views of the Sierra Nevada peaks. The building’s form and materials, influenced by its location on a rocky knoll, use concrete masonry to echo the textures of natural stone. The sloping roof and carved-out courtyard mirror the surrounding foothills, while bold interior accents inspired by local flora create vibrant, engaging spaces.
This campus, on one of the most spectacular campus sites in all of California, will be a catalyst for growth and opportunity in the region. We are proud to be part of a project that will inspire future generations and strengthen the local community.
Thank you to our valued partners and clients at State Center Community College District, and the team of architects and engineers working with Paul Halajian Architects.
