The United States Navy’s Human Resources Service Center enables an effective centralized center for service throughout the Navy’s Southwest region. The building houses open and private offices, an executive suite and legal library, meeting and conference rooms, multi-purpose conference and training facilities, high-density and power file storage, and exterior break and socialization areas for staff and trainees.
The new home of the Human Resources Service Center conforms to the design standards of the Marine Corps Base Miramar’s Exterior Architecture Plan, and the building form alludes to the combat and transport helicopters on the nearby flight line. The structure utilizes concrete block, glass, and sleek metal accents to suggest “uplift”, while creating a gateway building near the base’s western entry. The Human Resources Service Center is an elegant reflection of the building’s function and place.
The Human Resources Service Center achieved Platinum certification through the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green building rating system. The design reduces energy and water consumption by over 40%, reducing life-cycle cost of the structure and greatly reducing carbon emissions associated with building operation.
