In order to assure that the repair would be done in the most cost-effective and expeditious manner, the design team conducted an extensive on-site assessment and analysis of the materials and building systems. As a result of this process, the project’s construction cost was reduced from the budgeted $24 million to $17 million and the project was completed on schedule, to the satisfaction of the client and the 4 separate insurance adjusters. The project also received favor from the California Historic Preservation Office by being awarded the Governor’s Historic Preservation Award as well as the Design Award in the Rehabilitation category.
