It houses the command’s executive suite, administrative offices, legal library, multi-purpose conference and training facilities, and provides exterior break and socialization areas for staff and trainees. The new home of the Human Resources Service Center incorporates the design standards of the Marine Corps Base Miramar’s Exterior Architecture Plan while creating a building form that alludes to the combat and transport helicopters on the nearby flight line. It is an elegant reflection of the building’s function and place, utilizing concrete block, glass, and sleek metal accents to suggest the “uplift” of a helicopter’s wings while creating a gateway building near the base’s western entry.
Sustainability
The Human Resources Service Center achieved Platinum certification through the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green building rating system. The design reduces energy and water consumption by over 40%, reducing life-cycle cost of the structure and greatly reducing carbon emissions associated with building operation.
