LOS ANGELES, CA (September 12, 2019)—The Partners of Steinberg Hart, a leading design, architecture, and planning firm, are pleased to announce that Kim Patten, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been promoted to Partner. Patten, who joined the firm in 2015, previously served as a Principal.
“Kim has distinguished herself as an outstanding leader who has made a profound impact on our higher education practice through the creation of student-centered living and learning communities,” said Steinberg Hart President & CEO David Hart, AIA. “She has also been instrumental in shaping the culture of our studio through her leadership on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, pioneering our Culture Club, and implementing an Advocate Program designed to facilitate professional advancement.”
“Early on in my career, I was attracted to working in higher education design because of the diversity of project types and unique opportunities to create innovative spaces that impact the public,” said Steinberg Hart Partner Kim Patten. “The ability for this work to empower and inspire students during a transformative time in their lives is what motivates me. Similarly, I’ve always viewed it as both a responsibility and an honor to give back to our profession by serving as an engaged mentor to the next generation of women architects. I am fortunate to have had strong female architects as mentors throughout my career and I hope that my pathway to Partner can serve as a clear direction to similar advancement within our industry.”
Working with academic institutions across the country, Patten has facilitated strategic planning and visioning efforts for diverse public and private campuses. Employing a highly integrated sustainability strategy has led multiple projects to receive AIA COTE Top Ten Green Awards. Recent notable projects include: programming and design for the Harvey Mudd College, Scott A. McGregor Computer Science Center in Claremont, CA; a 500-bed student housing project at CSU Dominguez Hills; a new campus for State Center Community College District in Oakhurst, CA; The Ludwick Center for Spirituality, Cultural Understanding, and Community Engagement at the University of La Verne; and a 620-bed student housing project at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, CA.
Patten earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and serves on the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)’s Facilities Planning Committee and as 2020 SCUP Pacific Regional Conference Chair.
