Judges for the 2023 Gold Nugget Awards have named Steinberg Hart as an Award of Merit winner in its annual competition, which honors architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from throughout the United States and internationally. Steinberg Hart earned its Merit honors for Ohio Street Probation Facility, which was honored in the Best Special Use Project category; Southwest Village Apartments, which was honored in the Best On-the-Boards Affordable Housing Project category; and Wilshire & La Jolla Tower, which was honored in the Best Mixed-Use Project category.
Chosen from the elite pool of Merit Award winners, Grand Awards will be announced on May 24th – The 2023 Gold Nugget Awards will be presented in Anaheim as a Highlight Event of PCBC.
Each project showcases an innovative approach to both design and community engagement, pushing boundaries and fostering positive impact.
The Ohio Street Probation Facility, which has been recognized in the category of “Best Special Use Project,” seamlessly integrates traditional probation services with community opportunities for the mutual benefit of clients and the broader community.
In the category of “Best On-the-Boards Affordable Housing Community,” Southwest Village is an 81-unit, fully affordable, transit-oriented development housing project located in the Encanto neighborhood of San Diego. Its nomination reflects its commitment to providing quality and inclusive housing.
The Wilshire & La Jolla Tower, nominated in the category of “Best Mixed-Use Project,” offers 112 units of co-living apartment homes, 6,000 SF of retail space, four levels of above-grade parking, and an array of resident amenities on the sky deck and podium levels. Rethinking the typical relationship between building skin and balcony at a per unit level, the tower is conceived as singularly connected elements with the ability to respond to the two forces of program and/or view as required.
“Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest and most innovative architects, planners and builder/developers,” said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish. “We applaud them all, and we forward to our June 22nd celebration of Merit and Grand Award winners.”
