Steinberg Hart Promotes Michael Miller and Vincent Mudd to Partner

Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA – December 6, 2024 – Steinberg Hart, a leading architecture and planning firm, is pleased to announce two significant leadership appointments: Michael Miller and Vincent Mudd have been elevated to Partner.

“I am thrilled to have Mike and Vincent join the Partner group,” shared Steinberg Hart CEO David Hart. “I’ve had the privilege of working with Mike for twenty-five years, going back to our days together at HHPA. He has contributed his tremendous creativity and design talent to some of our firm’s most celebrated projects, and our early days of collaborating on project designs are among some of my fondest memories. His career growth has been a pleasure to witness, and his leadership has been particularly impactful in fostering a vibrant design culture at the firm. He has made an indelible mark on our practice. I am proud to call him a Partner.”

“Vincent has shown an exemplary entrepreneurial spirit since joining Steinberg Hart,” Hart continued. “He brings an infectious positive attitude, admirable leadership, and fierce dedication to our team. He has a relentless drive for excellence, and as the new leader of our firm’s San Diego office, he has set the tone for what will certainly be a remarkable chapter in its success. Mike and Vincent have both had a transformative impact on the way we work at Steinberg Hart and we look forward to seeing the ways in which they continue to shape our practice.”

Michael Miller joined Steinberg Hart in 2003 after earning his Masters degree from SCI-Arc in 2000. His first project was a small senior center in Lynwood, California – a learning experience that he credits as formative, reframing his outlook and approach to design and his career. He was named Principal at the firm in 2018, and  has played a key role in growing the Los Angeles office through recruiting and developing talent. Today, he leads the office as Managing Partner.

Throughout his tenure at Steinberg Hart, Michael has played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s design philosophy. He has been instrumental in the design of numerous award-winning projects, including Crafton Hills College Public Safety & Allied Health Building, CSU Fullerton’s Titan Student Union, and the Godfrey Hotel. Most recently, he led the design of Harvey Mudd College’s McGregor Computer Science Center, which earned accolades at the national, regional, and local levels, including the AIA National Education Facility Design Award of Excellence and Honors at the SCUP Excellence Awards. Current projects underway include the Undergraduate Teaching & Learning Facility at UC Riverside, and CSU Northridge’s Matador Success and Inclusion Center.

Michael previously served on the Architectural Awards Committee for the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC), the AIA San Joaquin Design Awards Jury, AIALA 2×8 Awards Jury and has also served as both juror, mentor, and studio instructor within the local architectural education community. As Partner, Mike will continue to lead the firm’s creative direction with a focus on higher education, civic, and community-based projects, while serving the pivotal role of mentoring the next generation of designer leaders in the firm.

“When I started at Steinberg Hart, then The Steinberg Group, I was a young, naive, designer,” said Miller. “David and the firm leaders invested in my growth, giving me opportunities that stretched my abilities and challenged me to think differently. These projects pushed my career forward as much as they pushed the practice into new markets and to new heights. In many ways, we have grown together. I have been able to be a part of the firm’s transformation from a regional firm to a California firm, and now a National one, playing a part in some of the incredible achievements of our team, including the 2023 AIA California Firm Award win. I hope that my elevation to Partner helps others see that they can stay at one firm and be recognized, and at the very least influence our culture in a positive and lasting way. I look forward to continuing to lead our teams as we, together, create the world we want through design.”

Vincent Mudd, recognized in 2024 as one of San Diego’s Most Influential People by the San Diego Business Journal for the tenth time, now leads the firm’s San Diego office as Managing Partner Vincent has championed Steinberg Hart’s efforts to expand its presence in the San Diego market, focusing on innovative design solutions for institutional, civic, and mixed-use projects. With over 30 years of experience in the AEC industry, he navigates the power and impacts of public policy, and has a proven track record of shepherding some of the most complicated projects in the San Diego Mega-Region to entitlement.

Vincent joined Steinberg Hart in 2022. In his new role as Partner, he will leverage his deep knowledge of Southern California’s regional dynamics, the ever-evolving entitlement process, his commitment to community-focused design, and his strong leadership to grow the firm’s presence in San Diego. He has long demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement, serving on a variety of civic and philanthropic boards in the San Diego region. He served as Chairman of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and San Diego’s Citizen’s Sustainability Task Force, and is a former director of the San Diego County Water Authority Metropolitan Water District and the State Compensation Insurance Fund. Vincent currently serves as San Diego Chapter Chair for Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2), Director at San Diego North Economic Development Council and as Vice-Chair and Treasurer for Burnham Center for Community Advancement (BCCA).

“I’m honored to take on the role of Partner at Steinberg Hart,” said Mudd. “As we settle into our new office location in vibrant Downtown, I’m particularly excited to lead Steinberg Hart’s San Diego office into its next chapter as a true power player in the San Diego region. Our nationally recognized Southeast Live Well Center, completed for the County of San Diego, was recognized by DBIA National, ENR National, and AIA regional awards. The impact of this transformative project is but one example of our community and industry influence. Our team is a triple threat – we have a longstanding history of over 30 years in San Diego, comprehensive and current regional understanding, and the ability to leverage an impressively broad firmwide expertise. I see remarkable opportunities ahead of us – the best is yet to come.”
